Tencent, National Earthquake Emergency Service Ally on Disaster Prevention
Jiemian, 7/31/17
Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK) and China's National Earthquake Emergency Search and Rescue Center have reached a strategic cooperation in which the Search and Rescue Center will utilize Tencent's location services and big data to assist with decision-making in disaster prevention, mitigation, and relief.
Under the agreement, Tencent will make its location services big data platform available for the Search and Rescue Center to use in post-earthquake rescue decision-making. In addition, Tencent's location services big data platform and any relevant data will be integrated with the Search and Rescue Center's data and used for daily scientific research.
The National Earthquake Emergency Search and Rescue Center is a subordinate unit of the China Seismological Bureau. It is responsible for earthquake emergency rescue technology research and development, information services, and personnel training.
Editor's Note: Last week, Chinese online and mobile news platform Yidian Zixun announced a similar strategic partnership with China's National Early Warning Center, which will see Yidian Zixun integrate all of the center's emergency warnings covering natural disasters, accidental disasters, public health incidents, and social safety incidents.
