Tencent Launches Internet Media Platform for Authors
Tencent Tech, 12/15/12
Shenzhen-based internet company Tencent (0700.HK) launched a new "we media" platform, Dajia (translatable as either "Maestro" or "Everybody"), on December 15. Dajia leverages Tencent's internet media platform and user base to develop an all-in-one personal "we media" platform. On the day of the announcement, Yuan Weishi, Zhang Ming, Kong Qingdong, and other popular academics and commentators signed agreements to become the first trial users. Tencent VP Sun Zhonghuai said that Tencent would invest tens of millions of yuan in blogger contracts and cash compensation.
Authors who sign up for the platform will also enjoy "columnist management" services offering platform-wide resources, including web, pop-up, and header links, to authors and select original content.
Dajia chief editor Jia Jia said that Tencent had built on its experience working with Han Han on his own channel on Tencent Microblog in developing the new service, as well as social reading sites like Pheed, news aggregators like BuzzFeed, and the new socially aware New York Times. Since its launch, Han Han's channel has received more than 1 mln views per day, reaching 3 mln daily views at its peak.
Authors on the new platform will receive a subdomain ending in ".dajia.qq.com." The author back-end interface will combine online publishing with social features, allowing authors to quickly post longer updates in image form to their microblogs. On the subject of future Dajia features, Jia Jia said that plans include mobile app development, as well as adding back-end support for public WeChat account operations, integration with Tencent's iCare mobile reader application, and other mobile channels in the near future.
