Tencent Kicks Off WeChat Promotion in India

Chinese Internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK) has announced a new promotional campaign for its WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application in India. The campaign centers around WeChat's personalized 2D-barcode feature, which allows WeChat users to create their own unique 2D-bardcode linked to their personal WeChat accounts. The promotion encourages WeChat users in India to post their own WeChat QR code on Facebook and scan their friends' 2D barcode to connect with them. Users adding the largest number of friends by scanning 2D-barcodes and having their own 2D-barcode code scanned stand to win an iPhone5, iPad3, Google Nexus 7 and a number of other gift vouchers.
