Microsoft, Autodesk Sue Canbo for RMB 8 Mln
DoNews, 12/05/12
On the morning of November 28, the Foshan Intermediate People's Court began hearing arguments in open court in Microsoft and Autodesk's software copyright dispute with Guangdong-based Canbo Electrical Appliance. Microsoft and Autodesk accuse Canbo of installing multiple copies of Microsoft's Windows and Windows Server operating systems and Microsoft Office, and of Autodesk's AutoCAD design software, on its computers. The companies are demanding that Canbo cease its copyright infringement, remove the pirated software, issue a public apology, and pay RMB 8 mln in damages.
On August 23, 2012, lawyers representing Microsoft and Autodesk used a copy of the "Firefox" web browser installed on a computer at the Guangzhou public notary office to analyze Canbo's homepage. The lawyers found that Canbo's management platform was developed on top of Microsoft's Windows Server operating system, and that the company - which has a registered capital of HKD 10 mln and more than 3,000 employees - had not obtained licenses for its software. Lawyers working for Microsoft and Autodesk filed suit against Canbo in the Foshan Intermediate People's Court on August 29.
