China Mobile Extends 4G Coverage to Hangzhou Subway Line
Today Morning Express, 11/21/12
China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) Zhejiang subsidiary recently announced it has completed installation, testing, and base station optimization of TD-LTE 4G coverage for Hangzhou's No. 1 subway line. Once operational, subway riders will be able to access the TD-LTE network via their handsets, tablets, and notebooks. Speeds exceeded 40Mbps on subway cars during testing.
China Mobile previously launched free TD-LTE-based Wi-Fi coverage for Hangzhou's B1 bus line, but subway riders must use either a MiFi device or TD-LTE capable handset. Users can purchase a MiFi device and 4G data plan starting at RMB 80 per month for 4GB of throughput with a RMB 500 deposit at China Mobile service halls, and can receive a full refund for the deposit after two years.
