D.Phone: TD-SCDMA Handset Sales Boom in Q1
Beijing Morning Post, 4/22/10
Chinese mobile phone retailer D.Phone's handset sales in Beijing increased 28% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2010, to 250,000 units. 36.65% of these were 3G handsets, with TD-SCDMA handset sales up 56.32% quarter-on-quarter. Qi Feng, D.Phone senior vice president and Beijing branch general manager, said that the arrival of a large number of new TD-SCDMA products spurred TD-SCDMA handset sales in the quarter. During the quarter, D.Phone offered a total of 36 new models of 3G handsets, the majority of which were made by foreign manufacturers. 60% of the new 3G handsets offered by D.Phone support TD-SCDMA.
Qi added that mobile carriers' 3G fee schedule adjustments also pushed sales of 3G handsets. Qi predicted that 3G handset sales volume would reach parity with that of 2G models in the second quarter of the year.
