GAPP Approves Netease Operation of Burning Crusade
Sohu IT, 2/12/10
China's General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) has announced on its official website that it has agreed to permit commencement of operation of The Burning Crusade, the first expansion pack of 3D MMORPG World of Warcraft, by online game operator Netease (Nasdaq: NTES).
On November 2 last year, GAPP issued a notice halting the approval process for Netease's application to operate World of Warcraft (The Burning Crusade), returning the application to Netease and demanding that it immediately stop its breach of regulation, correct related errors, and stop both charging for the game and accepting new account registrations.
On February 8, Netease announced it would temporarily suspend new user registrations for WoW from February 8 to February 14. The same day, GAPP announced that it had received from the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Press and Publication a revised version of the application from Netease affiliate Shanghai EaseNet Network Technology Limited, via Tongji University Press.
