China's State Organs Continue Porn Crackdown
People's Posts and Telecommunications News, 12/10/09
From December 2009 to the end of May 2010, China's State Council Information Office (SCIO), Office of the National Campaign on Anti-prostitution and Anti-delinquency (ONCAPAD), Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Ministry of Public Security (MPS), Ministry of Culture (MoC), State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC), State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), and the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) will partner on a nationwide cleanup of internet and mobile internet pornography and vulgar content.
The main task of the crackdown is to cleanse the internet of lewd and vulgar content by shutting down websites found to host content harmful to the healthy growth of minors, investigating companies that provide pornographic or vulgar content in exchange for fees, cleaning up all internet access service providers found to be in violation of applicable regulations, and establishing a robust and effective mechanism for guarding against and investigating lewd and vulgar content.
