China Mobile to Subsidize All TD-SCDMA Handsets in 2010
China Business News, 12/10/09
When asked how much China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) will allocate to TD-SCDMA handset subsidy in 2010, president Wang Jianzhou said that under China Mobile's policy, subsidies will be offered on all TD-SCDMA terminals from all manufacturers in 2010. However, specific figures for subsidy amounts are currently unavailable, but will be announced in the company's 2010 plan in March, along with the company's 2009 financial reports, said Wang.
Gao Nianshu, GM of China Mobile's data division, added that current subsidy policy does not offer a standard subsidy amount for all TD-SCDMA handsets, but rather first divides handsets into "Premier," "Regular," and "Acceptable" categories based on handset quality, and then offers bundled calling packages on a case-by-case basis; that is, there is no single rule for determining how much subsidy money will be offered for any given handset.
