Alibaba Q3 Profit Up 49%

B2B e-commerce firm Alibaba (1688.HK) has announced its unaudited financial results for Q3 2008, with total revenues reaching RMB 780.2 mln, up 37% year-on-year and 6% quarter-on-quarter.
Net income for the quarter came to RMB 308.6 mln, up 49% YoY but down 22% QoQ.
By the end of the quarter, Alibaba's combined marketplaces had 35.6 mln registered users, an increase of 40% year-on-year and 10% quarter-on-quarter. Of these, 6.9 mln users were on its international marketplace and 28.7 mln registered users were on its China marketplace.
During the period, the total number of storefronts on its marketplaces grew to 4.2 mln, an increase of 54% year-on-year and 10% quarter-on-quarter. 868,379 storefronts were on its international marketplace and 3.3 mln were on its China marketplace.
The number of paying members of Alibaba's combined marketplaces was 398,351, an increase of 46% year-on-year and 8% quarter-on-quarter. Paying members consisted of 30,836 Gold Supplier members and 15,016 International TrustPass members from the international marketplace, and 352,499 China TrustPass members from the China marketplace.
The company also announced that its board of directors has authorized a share repurchase program of up to HKD 2 bln through the end of 2009.
