China Aims to Replace Foreign Satellites by 2010

Xinhuanet, 11/20/07

The Chinese Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense (COSTIND) has revealed that by the end of the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010), Chinese-developed communications satellites will have nearly replaced those that are foreign-owned.

Over the next three years, the commission will further promote the Chinese satellite broadcasting system project, and actively research and develop a range of new satellites with a large potential market in applications such as broadband multimedia and voice transmission.
