Operators Announce October 2007 Subscriber Totals

China's four main telecom operators have announced their subscriber totals for October.
China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) added 6.6 mln subscribers, its biggest monthly increase this year, to reach 356.3 mln and China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) added 1.5 mln new subs (1.13 mln GSM subs and 358,000 CDMA subs) to reach 157.5 mln (117 mln GSM subs and 40.5 mln CDMA subs).
Fixed-line operators continued to suffer shrinking subscriber bases. China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) lost 880,000 fixed-line subs, its third consecutive and biggest monthly loss this year, bringing its total to 222.6 mln. Similarly, China Netcom (NYSE: CN; 0906.HK), with a net loss of 370,000 fixed-line subs, saw its total reduced to 114.1 mln.
Broadband growth remained robust, with China Telecom adding 550,000 users to reach 34.4 mln and Netcom adding 460,000 to reach 18.8 mln.
