Alibaba Cloud Launches Smart City Solution 'City Brain 2.0'
iYiou, 9/19/18
Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA), announced the launch of version 2.0 of its "City Brain" for Hangzhou at The Computing Conference 2018 in Hangzhou today. Alibaba Cloud's smart city solution has grown 28-fold in the past year, now covering 420 square kilometers across its main urban districts, Yuhang District, and Xiaoshan District. City Brain manages 1,300 intersection signals and receives video from 4,500 traffic cameras for full perception of the city's traffic and remote direction of more than 200 traffic police through mobile handsets.
The main changes from City Brain 1.0 to 2.0 are the expansion of its jurisdiction, real-time commands to traffic police, and extension of application fields from traffic into fire-fighting.
Alibaba Cloud announced City Brain 1.0 at The Computing Conference in 2017. The solution allowed city managers for the first time to directly observe data to guide their management work. City Brain 1.0 allowed the system to control traffic lights and cameras, and automated recognition mechanisms in the system helped city managers smartly understand and respond to traffic conditions.
