Didi Chuxing Pilots In-vehicle Video Monitoring System

Chinese taxi booking and car hire service app Didi Chuxing has been testing out in-vehicle recording equipment in a small number of vehicles operating through its Didi Express and Didi Premier channels, to help resolve disputes between drivers and passengers, and to support rescue operations in case of emergency, confirmed a Didi Chuxing employee speaking with online media outlet Iyiou.com.
Some Didi Chuxing users recently noticed that the platform's mobile app displayed a message asking whether they would like to launch an in-vehicle monitoring function after booking their ride. Drivers said that they were unaware of what this message meant and that their vehicles are not equipped with any in-vehicle monitoring equipment, but pointed out that Didi Chuxing users can share their itinerary with others using the platform's travel monitoring service.
The Didi Chuxing employee said that passengers hailing a vehicle equipped with recording equipment are asked for their consent prior to recording and can turn off in-vehicle recording at any time. Didi Chuxing did not provide additional details regarding equipment functionality or plans for expanding the program's scope beyond pilot testing.
