Baidu Launches In-app Applet Function
IT Home, 7/04/18
Chen Dou, a vice president at Chinese internet conglomerate Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), recently announced a new Baidu smart in-app applet function at the company's Baidu Create 2018 AI developer conference in Beijing.
The Baidu smart applet can not only run within Baidu's main mobile app, but can also be accessed from within other Baidu apps such as forums platform Baidu Post Bar and Baidu Maps, as well as external environments such as a web browser, bullet-screen platform Bilibili.com (Nasdaq: BILI), and Chinese online classifieds site 58.com (NYSE: WUBA). Chen Dou said that the applet connects to Baidu's human brain simulation project Baidu Brain (version 3.0), enabling developers to access its capabilities with only a few lines of code. In addition, Chen said that Baidu plans to make the applet's source code fully available to developers this December.
Baidu also introduced a new "Ai Shuochang" ("Love Rap") smart applet. Users can select background music and speak lyrics to have the applet automatically generate a rap song.
Baidu has previously announced smart applets for its online video subsidiary iQiyi (Nasdaq: IQ), travel service provider Ctrip (Nasdaq: CTRP), and Chinese consumer electronics and home appliance retailer Suning.com Co., Ltd. (002024.SZ).
