Rumor: Today's Headlines to Launch Gamecasting Service
36Kr.com, 6/29/18
Beijing-based Bytedance Technology, operator of online and mobile news portal platform Today's Headlines, is reportedly planning to launch a new live gamecasting service, according to several industry sources speaking with media outlet 36Kr.com. Bytedance is reportedly incubating a gamecasting product internally, managed by the development team for short video app Xigua Shipin. Bytedance has not yet commented on the matter.
The Xigua Shipin ("Watermelon Video") app currently features a few live broadcast channels within its video information feed, including both game-related and other types of live content. A gamecaster source said that original content creator privileges are required to use Xigua Shipin's live broadcasting function. Live content broadcasting rights are only granted through official invitation and the function is still at the testing stage.
