Hangzhou-based autonomous cargo vehicle developer Fabu Technology recently gave an update on its technology progress and future plans, and confirmed new investment from Sinovation Ventures.
Fabu was established by He Xiaofei, former director at Chinese taxi-booking and car hire service app Didi Chuxing's machine learning institute Didi Research and founder of Didi Chuxing's autonomous vehicle program. Fabu's core AI technology platform incorporates technologies for environmental awareness, mapping and positioning, and route planning and navigation, as well as AI processor chips. The company's autonomous freight vehicles can operate 24 hours a day at speeds of up to 70 km/h in clear weather, 50 km/h in rainy conditions, and 20 km/h in snowy weather. The trucks are equipped with Fabu's own algorithms and AI chips, and feature driving response rates as fast as 0.05 seconds.
Fabu has established four development stages for its vehicle program and expects to achieve intercity freight shipment capabilities later this year. It plans to offer intracity autonomous freight services by 2019, inter-province freight services by 2020, and universal autonomous vehicle technologies by 2022.
