Music Video App Douyin Suspends Live Streaming and Commenting Functions
China.com, 4/11/18
Mobile music short video sharing app Douyin, operated by Beijing-based Bytedance Technology's indirectly wholly-owned subsidiary Microlive Vision, announced that starting today, it will suspend use of its live stream and comment functions as part of a comprehensive system upgrade. The functions will be made available once again after the upgrade. With this upgrade, Douyin will further raise its review standards and strengthen its management of platform content, including comments and live streams.
Douyin is also currently launching the first phase of an anti-addiction system, including a time feature which displays a text warning if a user continuously watches videos for over 90 minutes. Another feature is a time lock which will automatically lock out the user if he or she surpasses 2 hours of use in a single day, requiring the user to then unlock the app with a preset password.
Douyin said this series of upgrades is still in the initial phase, and adjustments will be made to specific warning times according to actual circumstances.
