WeChat Opens Testing for Applet Games to Developers

Chinese internet giant Tencent's (0700.HK) WeChat mobile messaging app has announced the opening of testing for applet games within WeChat. Developers can develop and debug small games and have the option to include WeChat social relation links and virtual payments. Developers are currently barred from publishing the small games outside of WeChat.

The WeChat social relation links means that develops can create games which utilize competition and rankings among friends or interaction within a WeChat group. The Android version of WeChat will be able to permit sales of virtual in-game items. However, the functionality is not permitted for individual applet developers.

Chinese individuals and non-individuals (i.e. enterprises, sole proprietorships, government, and media) can all register applet games in all game categories. However, developers must provide relevant credentials.
