WeChat Launches Electronic Social Insurance Card Services

Chinese internet conglomerate Tencent's (0700.HK) Internet+ partnerships division recently launched an electronic social insurance card that offers functions for social insurance queries, social insurance contributions, and viewing local online medical insurance services.
The electronic insurance card will also accelerate the introduction of WeChat's medical insurance payment services, which allow users to access Internet+ medical services such as signing in electronically to avoid lines at clinic visits and one-click functions for co-payments and medical insurance payments. Currently, WeChat's medical insurance payments function is connected to human resources and social insurance departments in 27 provinces and cities including Shenzhen, Chengdu, and Zhengzhou.
Users can access WeChat's electronic social insurance card services through the "city services" interface within their WeChat Wallet function, or by following the "electronic social insurance card" WeChat public account.
In the future, WeChat's medical insurance payments system will also connect hospitals, patients, and pharmacies to enable mobile medical insurance payments at pharmacies, where users will be able to complete pharmacy payments by simply scanning a QR code.
