Alipay, Hangzhou's Urban Management Pilot Non-inductive Parking Fee Payment
Mydrivers, 11/29/17
Hangzhou's Urban Management and Chinese third-party payment processor Alipay have joined forces to offer non-inductive payment for street side parking. Users who have activated password-free payment in Alipay no longer need to wait for the parking attendant, pull out cash, or even their smartphone to pay. The service automatically deducts parking charges when the user leaves the lot.
More than 700 parking spaces in 48 locations across Hangzhou's West Lake District are trialing the program, which is expected to launch citywide next year.
When a user drives onto a non-inductive parking spot, an underground magnetic sensor notifies the parking attendant that the spot has a vehicle. The attendant then uses a handset to scan the vehicle's license plate. When the driver leaves, the magnetic sensor automatically records the parking time to synchronize with the parking attendant's records, while automatically deducting the parking fee from the driver's Alipay account.
Users must first link their vehicle's license plate number to their Alipay account by following the directions in the mobile app.
Alipay is operated by Ant Financial Group, the financial services affiliate of internet conglomerate Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA).
