Sina's News App Launches AI-based Real-time Recommendation Engine
Sina Tech, 9/14/17
Chinese internet company Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) recently introduced a new "instant recommendation" (Jishi Tui) function within its news app that uses artificial intelligence technology to identify a user's interests at a given moment and recommend relevant news, image, and video content.
After a user finishes reading an article and returns to the main interface, the AI system will select and recommend an additional article to the user based on the current article content and the user's interests. The new article title will be provided below the title of the article that the user just finished viewing.
For example, after a user is finished reading information about a historical film or TV series, the Jishi Tui function will recommend other content related to similar historical events, character types, or actors.
The recommendations from Jishi Tui are not only based on the content of the article that the user has just read, but also on deep learning and analysis of content tags, user browsing time, content freshness, geographical information, and network status, so that the system can recommend optimal content.
