Beijing-based voice recognition and search technology provider Mobvoi, operator of mobile voice assistant app Chumen Wenwen, recently announced a new cylindrical smart speaker product called "Tichome," which comes with a smart personal assistant.
Mobvoi has also partnered with Tencent's (0700.HK) subsidiary cloud computing products and solutions provider Tencent Cloud Computing and Tencent's social-data-based intelligent assistant Xiaowei to offer music resources from QQ Music. Tichome users can also access content provided by online and mobile audio platforms Ximalaya FM, Kaola FM, and Qingting FM (Dragonfly FM), news platform Today's Headlines, and search platform Jike.
The Tichome speaker is equipped with its own virtual personal assistant, which includes integrated support for Alibaba Group's (NYSE: BABA) e-payment platform Alipay and local life services platform Koubei, and Xiaoju Kuaizhi ("Didi Chuxing")'s ride hailing service, allowing users to search for train and plane tickets, hotels, and restaurants. Tichome can also connect with other smart products from Mobvoi, including the Ticwatch smartwatch and Ticmirror smart rear-view car mirror.
Mobvoi has established partnerships with home furnishings and appliance brands including Haier U+, BroadLink, and LifeSmart that allow more than 300 smart products covering 40 categories to be controlled through the Tichome speaker.
The smart speaker is now available for purchase through the crowdfunding channel of Alibaba Group's C2C e-commerce site Taobao. The black edition Tichome speaker is priced at RMB 649 on the crowdfunding site and will retail for RMB 999. Red, grey, and green speaker models are also available for RMB 699 (crowdfunding) or RMB 999, RMB 799 (crowdfunding) or RMB 1,399, and RMB 999 (no crowdfunding option), respectively.
