Tencent's Download Software QQ Xuanfeng to Cease Operations
Sina Tech, 8/04/17
Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK) has announced that its download software, QQ Xuanfeng, will be shut down as of September 6, as a result of business development adjustments.
A representative for QQ Xuanfeng said that users must transfer any remaining QQ Xuanfeng data prior to September 6. Following this date, all data associated with the service will be deleted and users will not be able to transfer or recover any unsaved resources.
QQ Xuanfeng, which launched in 2008, shut down its cloud playback function in November 2014, and at the time said that QQ members would no longer be able to use seed documents to connect and watch hosted video content. After QQ Xuanfeng's cloud playback function was shut down, it left P2P download accelerator Xunlei (Nasdaq: XNET) as the only mainstream service offering cloud playback services. After QQ Xuanfeng fully ceases to operate, it will again leave Xunlei as the only remaining provider of comparable services.
