Update: Alibaba Completes Integration of Tmall, Taobao Membership Systems
Mydrivers.com, 7/31/17
Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA) has announced the expansion and unification of membership programs for its B2C and C2C e-commerce platforms Tmall and Taobao under the brand name "88 Member" (read "Baba Member" in Chinese). August 8 has also been declared "88 Members Day," signifying the achievement of synergy across the Alibaba Group ecosystem.
The 88 Membership system looks at consumer behavior data over the past 12 months across Alibaba's platforms, including Taobao, Tmall, travel platform Fliggy, and movie ticketing platform Tao Piao Piao. The system looks at data including purchase volume, purchase frequency, interaction, and credit, and turns it into a members rating, call "Taoqizhi."
Depending on a member's rating, users can receive special benefits. Ratings will update on the eighth of each month, and users can check their scores at any time.
