Tencent Acquires 41% Stake in Comics Distribution JV Tianwen Kadokawa

Japanese publisher Kadokawa Corporation issued a statement announcing that Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK) has acquired a 41% stake in Guangzhou-based Tianwen Kadokawa Animation and Comics from Changsha-based shareholder China South Publishing & Media Group (601098.SH). Tencent is now the second largest stakeholder of Tianwen Kadokawa, with Kadokawa Corporation holding 49% and China South Publishing retaining 10%.
Tencent and Tianwen Kadokawa will become strategic partners in the Chinese media market, with Tencent using its technological strengths and platforms to bring Tianwen Kadokawa's content to online platforms.
Tianwen Kadokawa was founded in July 2010 as a joint venture between China South Publishing's subsidiary Hunan Tianwen Animation and Comics Media and Kadokawa Shoten's Hong Kong-based subsidiary Kadokawa Holdings China. Tianwen Kadokawa primarily engages in publishing and online sales of simplified Chinese versions of licensed comics and novels, and e-books.
