CWW, 7/13/16
Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturer Huawei Technologies and consumer appliances manufacturer Midea Group (000333.SZ) have signed a strategic cooperation framework, outlining a close partnership in the smart home industry.
Huawei plans to apply its experience with connectivity and smart devices to Midea's home appliances to develop the smart home industry, said Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu. Huawei and Midea will work together to produce Midea-branded smart home appliances that support Huawei's standard protocol for smart devices, "HiLink." The two companies will gradually connect Huawei Consumer Business Group's entire product line and Midea's full line of smart home appliances. Midea smart home appliances will be sold on Huawei's "Vmall" e-commerce platform, as well as on other third-party platforms. Midea will display HiLink solutions in its showrooms.
The two companies will also explore partnerships in the fields of next generation Internet of Things chips, operating systems, artificial intelligence, security, data sharing and data mining, establishing the foundation for possible joint development of new products and businesses in the future.
