Alibaba to Integrate Facial Recognition Technology into E-mail Login
TechNode, 6/23/16
Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA) has announced it will integrate its "Shualian" facial recognition technology into the login process for accessing the company's AliMail email service. Alibaba also plans to use this as an entry into the Software as a Service-based enterprise email services market.
At the CeBIT exhibition in Hanover, Germany last year, Alibaba chairman Jack Ma demonstrated a facial scanning technology for Chinese third-party payment processor Alipay. That biological recognition technology has been extended to the "Shualian" email login, which should be more convenient and secure.
Alibaba Mail (AliMail) was launched in 2009 and was China's first email service to use an independent cloud service, said AliMail manager Zhang Zihui. AliMail pivoted to focus on providing enterprise email services in 2013, and currently has more than 1 mln corporate clients, making it the most used enterprise email service provider in China.
