Meituan-Dianping Halts O2O At-home Services
National Business Daily, 2/02/16
Online users recently observed that Meituan-Dianping, the company formed by the merger of Chinese group buy site Meituan and online ratings and group buy site Dianping, has taken down its O2O at-home service offerings. Online media outlet National Business Daily obtained an email sent by Meituan-Dianping to its partners, saying that these services would be halted on February 1, 2016, at which time users would no longer be able to place orders.
A spokesperson for Meituan-Dianping told National Business Daily that the Dianping app has made adjustments to its at-home services. The spokesperson said that after operating the services for a short time, Dianping found that user retention was not as high as expected, which the company took as a sign that users are not yet accustomed to using these services.
Dianping first launched its at-home services on May 7, 2015, at which time it offered manicure, eyelash, massage, laundry, and home cleaning services. Additional categories including beauty care, chauffeur, and car maintenance services were added later.
