Sina Tech, 8/13/15
Beijing-based Android device maker Xiaomi recently announced its all-new MIUI 7 mobile operating system, which is now available as an upgrade for all Xiaomi mobile phones, including the Xiaomi 2/2S/3/4, Xiaomi Note, Redmi, and Redmi Note series.
MIUI 7 offers improved system response time and background energy savings. According to Xiaomi, response time is at least 30% faster, and battery life is at least 25% longer. MIUI 7 also includes four different system user interfaces aimed at different types of users, such as one dedicated for older users and one for young children. MIUI 7 will give users the option of which UI they wish to use upon starting up the phone for the first time. The MIUI 7 also includes other new features, such as Xiaomi Manyou (Xiaomi Roaming).
Using MIUI 7's Xiaomi Manyou service, when a user travels abroad, his or her mobile phone will automatically enter an international roaming mode, with the service enabling users to set limits on which roaming networks to use and roaming data usage. The system uses a local virtual SIM card to provide data roaming services, which generally cost approximately RMB 0.1 per megabyte. Xiaomi Manyou will initially support 36 countries and regions, including Hong Kong, the United States, and Japan.
Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun said that the global network of active MIUI users includes more than 150 mln users located in 156 countries and regions across the world. According to MIUI statistics, on average each user spends as much as 4.5 hours per day using their mobile phone.
