Baidu, EZT Ally to Develop Smart Medical Service Platform
DoNews, 7/10/15
Chinese internet company Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) mobile healthcare app, Baidu Doctor, recently announced that it has formed a strategic partnership with hospital registration platform EZT, operated by Tianjing Shangxian Technology. The two companies will partner on the construction of platforms for health information services, smart triage classification and treatment, mobile and online payment for healthcare, big data healthcare, and personal healthcare consumer credit loans.
EZT uses self-service terminals that cover an entire community to create a system that synchronizes hospital registration with the community. EZT and Baidu Doctor will jointly create a platform accessible online or via a mobile app that combines all participating medical institutions across China that will allow patients to make hospital appointments, check results of medical tests, and pay hospital bills.
Baidu will integrate EZT into its mobile payment platform Baidu Wallet. When visiting the hospital, patients will be able to instantly pay for the doctor consultation and medication to reduce the number of invoices the hospital needs to print out. Baidu Doctor will also add features for online payments, appointment reminders, and navigation within the hospital.
EZT and Baidu Doctor will also explore the possibility of offering consumer loans for medical expenses to relieve the pressure on patients needing medical treatment and lower the risk for hospitals to engage in payment collections. The service will use Baidu Wallet's risk management system to assess the credit rating of users and issue credit restricted for medical treatment.
The two companies will also partner to create integrated smart healthcare platforms for the majority of provinces and cities, beginning with a platform for Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei, and following with additional platforms for Guizhou, Guandong, and Shaanxi.
Baidu Doctor currently covers more than 90% of major hospitals in Fujian, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Hubei, Anhui, Shaanxi, Gansu, and Hunan, and nearly 40,000 doctors in positions of deputy director or higher.
