Chinese Fitness App 'Paopao' Lands RMB 8-digit Pre-A
Tencent Tech, 10/28/14
Beijing-based Tengmini Technology, operator of Chinese fitness app Paopao, has landed RMB 8-digit pre-Series A funding from Legend Capital. The funding will be used to expand the Paopao team and for marketing resources.
Paopao is an SNS mobile exercise app, founded by a team of former employees of Chinese internet companies Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA) and Tencent (0700.HK), among others. The app uses GPS positioning to track user jogging records, which can be supplemented with watermarks, pictures and text, and then shared with other users on the app. Training regimes can be scheduled factoring in location, gender and user running history. The app currently has almost 100,000 users, over 50% of whom are middle-class urbanites aged over 30 years.
Paopao can connect with Apple's Health Kit and Tencent's Health Center. The company is currently setting up an open platform for wearable health devices, opening up the potential to provide manufacturers with key user and product data.
