Online Wine Club 'Signature' Expands Distribution across China
Signature Wine, 9/23/14
Beijing-based Signature Wine Club (www.sigwine.com), an online subscription-based wine club, has partnered with international courier service EMS to expand distribution across China. The two companies have collaborated to create new packaging that both prevents breakage and includes a cooling agent to protect the wine from high temperatures, paving the way for distribution beyond Beijing.
Established in November 2013, Signature Wine is a B2C e-commerce business that provides members with wine, wine education and wine related products. The service features a team of experts led by Ms. Fongyee Walker, a leading wine educator in China who appeared in China-focused, wine-related documentary Red Obsession. Each month the team chooses 3 different international wines and provides detailed education and information about each bottle chosen. The wine is packaged and delivered to subscribers' homes or offices for a flat monthly fee: for two bottles a month, subscribers pay RMB 1,169 for 3 months, RMB 1,999 for 6 months, and RMB 3,499 for 12 months; for 3 bottles a month, subscribers pay RMB 1,728 for 3 months, RMB 2,888 for 6 months, and RMB 4,999 for 12 months. From the website, subscribers can also reorder additional bottles of any of the wines featured in previous months' shipments.
The company also offers subscription billing (auto-deduction) to both international and domestic credit card holders, allowing China UnionPay credit cards holders to subscribe to the service and pay the flat monthly fee via PayPal.
