Renren VP Resigns, Citing CEO Disagreement
Sina Tech, 6/27/14
Alan Du recently announced in an internal email that he has resigned from his position as VP in charge of strategic development at Beijing-based social networking site operator Renren (NYSE: RENN). In the email, Du criticized Renren chairman Joe Chen for being "very negative," both as a leader and as a person.
Chen has responded to the accusations, stating that Du resigned because he wanted to be the CEO of Renren's new investment program, but Chen and the program's founder thought that Du was not suitable for the job.
In the last two years, Renren's senior management has seen a serious shakeup. Wu Jiang, VP responsible for the company's wireless business, and Derek Shen, VP in charge of Renren's group buy site Nuomi.com, have both resigned, while He Chuan, VP in charge of the company's games business took a leave of absence, citing health concerns. Rumors have also circulated that Chen is currently at odds with Yang Muhan, VP in charge of Renren's campus-based promotions.
