Beijing-based education app developer Zhixue Youbang Technology, developer of student-focused Q&A app "ikaola," has announced the receipt of a RMB 8-digit first round of funding from venture capital firm IDG Capital Partners.
The ikaola app allows users to submit questions in written, voice, or image form, with answers provided either by an educator or student on the app. Educators on the app are part of tutoring teams maintained by ikaola, and are primarily university students and teachers. Students are ikaola users themselves, with higher-rated users able to answer questions from comparatively lower-rated users. If users need to ask more questions than are currently permitted based on their user level, it is necessary to purchase ikaola currency to then buy additional queries.
Wang Liang, founder of ikaola, has stated that in a new version of the app soon to be released, ikaola will add a real-time voice messaging feature. ikaola will also soon begin trials of an O2O extracurricular activity business.
The ikaola app was launched in early 2013, and currently has approximately 300,000 users.
