China's MIIT Announces Jan-Apr 2014 Telecom Statistics

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its Jan-April 2014 telecom industry statistics. The figures for the first four months of the year were as follows:
Telecom operating revenues for Jan-April 2014 were RMB 453.94 bln (USD 72.86 bln), up 6.7% YoY, among which, core services revenue was RMB 392.68 bln (USD 63.03 bln), up 6.3% YoY. Broken down by mobile and fixed-line core service revenue, mobile telecom revenue was RMB 290.97 bln, up 6.8% YoY; and fixed-line telecom revenue was RMB 101.71 bln, up 5.2% YoY.
Jan-April 2014 capital expenditure was RMB 65.26 bln (USD 10.48 bln), flat YoY.
Total telephone subscribers saw a net increase of 1.50 mln in April to reach 1.514 bln. In April, mobile subscribers grew by 3.44 mln to 1.252 bln, while fixed-line subscribers decreased by 1.94 mln to 261.76 mln. Among the mobile subscribers, 9.18 mln new 3G subscribers were added in April to reach a total 3G user base of 454.20 mln; and TD-LTE subscribers increased by 2.00 mln to reach a total 4G user base of 4.80 mln.
A total of 250.86 bln SMS messages were sent in Jan-April, an 18.8% decrease YoY.
In terms of internet access, China added 2.33 mln new registered broadband accounts in April to reach a total of 196.42 mln, of which 4M+ registered broadband accounts rose to 160.28 mln, accounting for 81.6% of all registered broadband accounts. Dial-up internet subs added by 5,000 in April, increasing the total dial-up user base to 4.62 mln.
Mobile internet subscribers decreased by 3.07 mln in April to reach a total of 848.05 mln. In Jan-April 2014, average monthly mobile data usage per mobile Internet subscriber increased to 168.1M, up 45.0% YoY.
