Sogou Launches Mobile Search App
Sina Tech, 5/08/14
Chinese internet firm Sohu's (Nasdaq: SOHU) online search subsidiary Sogou has officially launched the company's "Sogou Search" mobile search app, while at the same time updating the Sogou logo. The Sogou Search app features a general internet search box, as well as vertical search categories such as books, news, apps, and maps. The app also offers a real-time "trending searches" list and weather updates.
Sogou has added voice recognition functionality to the app, as well as QR code scanning functionality. At present, the Android version of Sogou Search has been launched on app download platforms from Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), Qihoo 360 (NYSE: QIHU), and Tencent (0700.HK).
Sohu CEO Charles Zhang has announced that Sogou Search will be integrated into Tencent's 'QQ' family of products, such as the company's QQ messaging application, Qzone SNS platform, and Mobile QQ Browser.
In September 2013, Tencent invested USD 448 mln to acquire a 36.5% stake in Sogou, merging its own search division with Sogou under the latter's brand.
