Tudou Announces RMB 100 Mln Animation Incubator

Chinese online video site Tudou, operated by Youku Tudou (NYSE: YOKU), has announced an investment of RMB 100 mln into an incubation program aimed at supporting the development of Chinese animated TV shows and films.
Yang Weidong, president of Tudou, has stated that the company will begin its incubation program in 2014 by pursuing investments in three animated films. The program is aimed at supporting the development, distribution, licensing, broadcast, and related-product licensing of domestically-developed animated content. The company will pursue cooperation with independent animators, animation companies, universities, and other groups.
In addition to financial support, Tudou will provide promotional assistance through its Tudou.com online video platform.
Animated programs are viewed a total of 30 mln times per day on Tudou, with 10 mln daily active users. Tudou also operates an "Animation Channel" on the site, offering suggested animated content to Tudou viewers.
