Didi Dache, Dianping to Use Tencent Maps
TechWeb, 2/26/14
Zhang Xian, GM of Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent's (0700.HK) Tencent Maps, has stated that Tencent Maps is planning in-depth cooperation with mobile taxi booking app Didi Dache and Chinese online ratings and group buy site Dianping, both previous recipients of Tencent investment. Details include the following:
1. Standardization of Didi Dache mapping services. Tencent Maps will become the primary map provider for both the taxi driver-facing and passenger-facing versions of Didi Dache. At present, approximately 90% of installed Didi Dache taxi driver-facing clients use Tencent Maps, while all passenger-facing clients use Chinese internet company Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) "Baidu Maps" service.
2. In the next update to Tencent's WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging app, Tencent Maps will integrate data from Dianping into its street view feature, allowing WeChat users to view Dianping storefront information from within Tencent street view.
3. Following Tencent's investment in Dianping, Dianping will gradually transition to Tencent Maps as its primary map provider on PC and mobile devices.
