Qihoo 360 Launches "Open In App" Mobile Search Service
Ebrun, 2/11/14
At the end of January 2014, Chinese internet services and security software provider Qihoo 360 (NYSE: QIHU) added an "Open In App" search feature to the company's mobile search service (m.so.com). The feature will provide mobile browser search users with an automatically generated link to open an app related to recently searched content, such as a link to open music and movie-related app "Douban" on user handsets following a Qihoo mobile search for movie reviews.
Users must have target apps installed on their mobile devices in order to be successfully transferred from mobile browsers to target apps. If users do not have an app installed, they are given the option to download the app through Qihoo's "Leidian" (m.leidian) mobile content search portal. Users can only use the Open In App feature within Qihoo's "360 Mobile Browser." At present, no other mobile browsers support the feature.
Qihoo requires that app developers apply directly to Qihoo to see app launch links for their apps appear in Qihoo mobile search results.
