Alimama Requires Taoke Advertiser Real-Name Verification
Beijing Business News, 11/28/13
Chinese e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group's online ad union, Alimama, has announced that the site will begin requiring new members of its Taoke affiliate advertiser network to undergo a real-name verification process, and will also require each Taoke affiliate to submit a plan detailing what ad formats it will make available on Alimama and how traffic generated through those ads will be directed to Taobao merchants.
Effective immediately, new members of Alimama, including Taoke registrants, must register an account on C2C & B2C e-commerce site Taobao and link a mobile phone number, personal ID number, and account on Chinese third-party payment processor Alipay in order to open their Alimama accounts. Existing Alimama members will also be required to submit proof of identity and verify their phone numbers.
According to Alimama, all members of the exchange will henceforth be required to submit a complete record of their respective advertising channels and methods for channeling traffic to Taobao merchants, to be filed by Alimama and used to help combat hacking, intentional spreading of Trojan viruses, and similar abusive behavior on the part of advertisers.
Alimama's Taoke affiliate network has several million members assisting Taobao merchants with off-site advertising. At present, roughly 10% of all Taobao transactions take place as a result of Taoke advertising.
