Consumer electronics manufacturer Skyworth Digital Holdings (0751.HK) and Chinese voice recognition software firm Anhui USTC iFlytek (002230.SZ) have announced plans to jointly establish a "smart TV voice interaction lab." As explained by representatives from Skyworth and iFlytek, the goal of the project is to utilize the two companies' respective strengths to create a space to foster innovation and spur the development of new applications for smart voice TV systems, thereby promoting the general development and spread of voice TV-based software and hardware.
Research and development at the lab will be centered on smart TV integrated voice technology, natural language processing, interactive cloud-based technology, mutually interactive multi-display technology, and other technologies.
iFlytek is China's largest supplier of voice recognition technology, with more than 80% market share in China's voice recognition software industry and more than 10,000 software developer partners. In 2012, iFlytek developed a voice-based software application by the name of "voice PhD" for three different lines of Skyworth cloud-enabled TV sets.
