China Telecom, Aishang Dianshi Partner on IPTV Business

Aishang Dianshi, a joint venture between Shanghai Media Group subsidiary BesTV New Media (600637.SH) and China Central Television's (CCTV) national online TV station CNTV, signed a partnership agreement today with China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) to cooperate in the roll-out of IPTV platforms, networks, content, and services.

According to documents released this year by China's State Council, broadcast and telecom network bi-directional conversion has been slated as an area of increased development focus in 2013. Bi-directional service trials, including those for IPTV, are expected to be extended nationwide in the second half of 2013.

There are currently 26 mln IPTV bi-directional broadcast and telecom network trial users nationwide.
