Sarft.net, 11/15/13
China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) Beijing subsidiary and Beijing-based cable and broadband operator Gehua CATV Network (600037.SH) recently began a cooperation to offer TV programming via Wi-Fi at the Beijing South railway station. To access the free service, users need only connect their handset to the wireless network named "Free Wi-Fi - Nanzhan," with live TV programming from Gehua's "Fly TV," a cable TV-to-WLAN TV service, offering immediate viewing without user authentication.
Beijing Telecom oversaw construction of the wireless network and will operate the service, with the company expected to expand similar service hotspots in cooperation with Gehua's Fly TV. Wireless service coverage is currently offered by Gehua's Fly TV at nearly 1,000 public locations, including in Beijing's historical South Luogu Lane, Houhai Lake, and inside Chinese consumer electronics and home appliances retailer Suning's (002024.SZ) brick and mortar locations.
