5 TV Manufacturers Receive China 4K UHD TV Certification
Sina Tech, 11/04/13
The China Electronics Chamber of Commerce (CECC) and the National Testing and Inspection Center for Radio & TV of China have jointly released China's 4K (4,000 horizontal pixel resolution) super-HD TV certification standards. Chinese TV manufacturer TCL Multimedia (1070.HK), as well as Sony, Samsung, LG, and Sharp, are the first companies to receive certification. Once certified, companies can attach a national certification label to their 4K super-HD TVs. To achieve certification, TVs must achieve a certain clarity level, refresh rate, color spectrum coverage rate, contrast, and native resolution performance targets, with testing results released to the public.
According to a consumer electronics survey conducted by the CECC, in the first half of the year, color TV manufacturers released 15 different 4K TV product lines. By the end of the year, the number of 4K TV product lines will increase to 31, with a total of 70 individual models. The first 4K TV model launched in China by Sony last August was 84 inches. There are now 12 sizes of 4K TVs ranging from 39 inches to 110 inches. In 2013, sales of 4K TV sets in China are expected to exceed 1 mln units.
