Rumor: Tencent's WeChat Users Exceed 600 Mln

An insider at Chinese internet and mobile services firm Tencent (0700.HK) has revealed that users of the company's WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application have now exceeded 600 mln, of which 100 mln are overseas users. According to the source, WeChat's overseas version could become an independent operation in the future.
In January of this year, WeChat announced that total registered users of the application had exceeded 300 mln, with that number reaching 400 mln in July. In April of this year, WeChat had 40 mln overseas users, with the number jumping to more than 70 mln in July, and over 100 mln in August.
