Coship Sues Xiaomi for STB Patent Infringement

TechWeb, 10/17/13

Chinese developer and manufacturer of satellite receivers and cable and terrestrial set-top boxes (STBs) Coship Electronics (002052.SZ) recently announced that the company has filed a lawsuit against Beijing-based Android handset developer Xiaomi regarding suspected patent infringement involving Xiaomi's "Xiaomi Box" set-top box (STB).

Xiaomi's STB allows the "menu" button on STB remote controls to act as a hot button, providing a number of tools related to whichever Xiaomi STB channel is currently open. Coship believes this feature infringes on a STB remote control operating system patent that the company applied for in 2007 (patent no. ZL 200710073318.2).

The case was filed in the People's Court of Shenzhen on October 15.
