Huawei Opens Internet TV STB Preorders
DoNews, 10/16/13
Chinese telecom equipment and terminal manufacturer Huawei announced today that the company will begin accepting preorders for its MediaQ ("Mi He") set-top box (STB) on 10:08 AM on October 17 through the company's online store and Beijing-based B2C e-commerce platform Jingdong, taking preorders until midnight on October 21. During the preorder period, customers must reserve STB products using a mobile phone number.
The RMB 488 STB is equipped with a quad-core CPU and 16-core GPU. The device, which supports 19 video formats, features a standard USB port, and comes with Wi-Fi connectivity. The STB comes preinstalled with China Network TV's (CNTV) broadcast control platform iCNTV, which features a video library containing more than 1.3 mln hours of movies and television. Each MediaQ unit comes with its own Tencent (0700.HK) WeChat (Weixin) mobile messaging application account number, which users can access to send photos to their TVs through WeChat. Users can also send music, images, and video from their handsets to their TVs by installing Huawei's "Huawei Suixin Kong" app on their handsets.
Customers that place orders for the new STB during the first day of the pre-sale will receive a voucher valued at RMB 300 that can be used to purchase consumer electronics on Jingdong.
