At the end of September, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) released its first batch of 4G mobile handsets in Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Wenzhou, including the Samsung GT-N7108D, Sony M35T, ZTE U9815, Coolpad 8735, Huawei G716, and K-Touch Touch 1. To coincide with the release, China Mobile's Hangzhou subsidiary also launched a 4G handset discount program. Within a week, more than 500 users signed up for 4G mobile handset service trials in Hangzhou.
Customers who purchase 4G handsets at Hangzhou Mobile's nine retail locations can utilize 4G services after paying a deposit and exchanging their mobile SIM cards. Subscribers are not required to change telephone numbers. As a promotional bonus, 4G trial subscribers will receive free 4G data within Zhejiang Province.
CEO of Hangzhou Mobile, Lin Changchun, has revealed that the number of 4G trial network users in Hangzhou has exceeded 20,000, accounting for 1/3 of total nationwide 4G trial users. Hangzhou Mobile launched TD-LTE trials in February, initially offering mobile 4G hotspots (MiFi) and network gateway CPEs (customer-premises equipment).
