Alipay App Opens Public Accounts Platform
Ebrun, 9/18/13
Chinese third-party payment processor Alipay's "Alipay Wallet" ("Alipay Qianbao") mobile app has released a public accounts platform, at present only available in the updated Android version of the app. Companies joining the platform include China's three major telecom operators and a number of major Chinese banks.
Public accounts on the Alipay Wallet public platform are currently divided into three main categories, including mobile handset, banking, and bill payment. Mobile handset accounts offer phone bill payment record retrieval and payment of mobile bills, while banking accounts offer money transfers, remittance, and credit card bill payments. Bill payment accounts primarily provide utility bill payment services, with users able to subscribe to water or gas provider public accounts to complete online payment. The majority of services available through the Alipay Wallet public accounts platform are available directly through Alipay Wallet's embedded features as well.
McDonald's and Jet Li's international charitable organization One Foundation have both opened public platforms. McDonald's offers menu selection, discounts, and store location services, whereas One Foundation allows users to directly donate to the organization.
